While it does not stop permanents being cast or attacks, stopping activated abilities is a good alternative that not many cards boast of. Drawing a card is icing on the cake

No, this is not like Orim's Chant. In some situations, it's superior. Orim's Chant cannot shut down abilities, that alone makes Abeyance a powerful card on its own. Besides, it gives you a card back, which means that on an Isochron Scepter it nets you extra card every turn, another thing Orim's Chant cannot do.
Also, I think Abeyance shuts down planeswalker also. The two are on par with each other, I say.

It's not like Orim's Chant 'cause it also prevents activated abilities and gives you a card at a cost of allowing creature summoning. I'd say this card is better on Isochron Scepter, for example, than Orim's Chant would be.

I found this card in a huge box of cards i bought off a guy a few months ago. It was in the uncommon common box. I've been using it in my 
control (obviously) with isochron. It seriously does work great, and getting to draw that extra card every turn. It's just good because if you can't get this on the Isochron, then Counterspell is always welcome.
