Don't laugh, I ran a Phyrexian Etchings deck that never skipped its land drops and this was an exceptional finisher in it. All the removal was cheap drainy effects, bounce, and outright kill, and I had plenty of life for when the time came to skip an Etchings payment and tap some serious mana.

Awesome that this was printed at common at least once. There are almost no X damage spells at common. This card is a house in pauper EDH. It's capable of killing off a big creature in the late game, and can finish off players quite nicely.
