"Behold! I have finally created... the Portly Gamer Golem!"

Would have been so much more characterful (i.e. less painfully generic) as Forestfolk...
What does being a solemn golem have to do with being a small/sustainable land fetcher?

He is in a hell of a lot of EDH decks and for good reason.
Also... goblin welder shenanigans

I love this card, but only because of it's function.
I mean "Sad Robot" or "Grim Clone" doesn't really have anything to do with drawing cards or finding lands. Even less now that the new art is no longer a depiction Jens- you can't even call it a Simulacrum anymore.

Yes, it is.
It depicts Jens Thorén, who won the Invitational and submitted a card named "Forestfolk".
The proposal was later changed to this card.
See the articles "Mirrodin Card Preview: Solemn Simulacrum" and "Past Invitational Winners and Cards" for details.

@nibeleim_valesti
I always assumed he got you cards and land because he's a servant golem.
"Golem, fetch me a land! Golem, get me more cards!" He's solemn because he doesn't like to be bossed around, but it's his job. ;)
Probably my favorite creature of all time. I can feel myself slipping into the lead whenever I play him.

Is this one of the cards that a pro helps design and gets their face in the art work like Avalanche Riders and Meddling Mage?

I wish they would have made this into a soldier instead of a golem.
