Oblivion Ring is any permanent though...Oubliette is just a creature...

More of a black Journey to Nowhere since it only nails creatures, but hey, it's still cool.

An interesting use of flavor...although to me an Oubliette symbolizes an artifact more than an enchantment, and also an Oubliette is a place from which one never comes back, unlike this card...It's still a great removal card...

Wheee, the black (and original) Oblivion Ring! Thing is for three mana, black can generally just kill a creature outright...

Hey; a black Oblivion Ring that has cool flavor? Nice.
I'm sure there are some neat tricks that could be pulled-off since this guy maintains counters and attached auras on the creature in question.

One of my favorite cards. Love that flavor.

This card is spectacular against monoblack decks (at least in older Magic) because it gets rid of black creatures (unlike Terror or Dark Banishing) and actually removes them from the game. Black is essentially helpless against enchantments, so it's permanent removal.
The card also allows you to counteract Control Magic shenanigans when used on one of your stolen creatures and paired with enchantment removal. Of course, you could always just disenchant control magic, but this card also works against sorceries that steal creatures (or reanimate from the opposing player's graveyard). A fringe benefit, but it still exists.
I used this card as my main removal in my monoblack Shandalar deck. Ashes to ashes is an option, but requires two targets and costs five life.

I see a card like this, I immediately start thinking of ways to use it on my own creature.

running this card in my kagemaro edh deck because that art is absolutely beautiful and it's a decent utility card, not amazing. But fun and useful
